Last month, my family decided to do up our old house.
It was a big project, and it really did us in.
First, we called a plumber because a pipe had a constant drip.
Then an electrician came to fix the old wiring.
A builder repaired the walls, and a decorator chose new colours for the rooms.
My mum tried to do without a service agent for the washing machine, but it broke again.
Meanwhile, my dad did chores like gardening and making the bed every morning.
He even tried to make a cake, but it was a disaster.
I felt homesick when they painted my room and asked me to sleep elsewhere—it seemed they wanted to do me out of a room!
In the end, our neighbour hit the nail on the head: “You must put your own house in order before inviting guests.” After two weeks of hard work, we were finally home and dry.
I learned never to hammer home a point about how messy a room is until you’ve cleaned it yourself!
Now I make myself at home in our bright, new living room, and we even take curtains to the dry cleaner once a month.
